IN-DEPTH ORIENTATION TOURS (4-8 hours) top

Let the Nation’s capital come alive on this voyage of discovery into the city’s history and development. Visit some of Washington’s most popular attractions, including the memorials dedicated to Presidents Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Franklin Roosevelt. Visit the war memorials dedicated to the veterans and heroes of World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and to the United States Marine Corps. Drive by, stop for photos, or visit (time permitting) the Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Ford’s Theater, Embassy Row, the Washington National Cathedral, Arlington Cemetery, the Smithsonian Museums, the National Gallery of Art, and the Capitol and the White House (by appointment).

WASHINGTON BY NIGHT TOURS (3-4 hours) top

The illuminated city at night creates a inspiring setting for a spectacular tour. Drive by the Capitol, Supreme Court, and Library of Congress, the Federal Buildings, Pennsylvania Avenue, and the White House, all lit up in the evening hours. Visit the major memorials, which are dramatic when viewed after dark, including the Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and the World War II Memorials, as well as the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial. An additional stop will be made (time permitting) at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, to enjoy the night view of the city from the roof terrace.

HISTORIC WASHINGTON HOMES TOURS (4-8 hours) top

If walls could talk, these homes would have amazing stories to tell. Visit several of the historic homes in the well-known neighborhoods of Washington and nearby Virginia. Among the long list of possibilities are: the Anderson House (former home of Ambassador Lars Anderson, now the headquarters for Society of the Cincinnati), Carlyle House (in Alexandria Virginia, built in 1752 for merchant John Carlyle), Cedar Hill (former home of abolitionist Frederick Douglass), the Decatur House (former home of Commodore Stephen Decatur), Dumbarton House (now the headquarters for the Society of the Colonial Dames), Dumbarton Oaks Estate (built in 1800 with fabulous gardens – former home of Robert Woods Bliss), Gunston Hall (former home of patriot George Mason), Heurich House (former home of the local brewmaster, Christian Heurich), Hillwood (former home of heiress Marjorie Merriwether Post), the Sewall-Belmont House (now headquarters for the National Women’s Party), Mt. Vernon (home of George Washington), the Octagon House (former home of John Tayloe, now owned by the American Institute of Architects), Old Stone House (oldest house in Washington), Tudor Place, Woodlawn, or Arlington House (all former homes of Martha Washington’s grandchildren), and the Woodrow Wilson House (former home of president Woodrow Wilson).

THE UNUSUAL MUSEUMS AND MEMORIALS TOURS (4-8 hours) top

A visit some of Washington’s lesser-known museums, such as the National Building Museum, the DAR Museum, the Red Cross Museum, the Navy Museum, the Textile Museum, the Kreeger Museum, the Phillips Collection, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Folger Library, the home of the National Women’s Party, Hillwood, and the Renwick Gallery. See some of the many less visited memorials, such as, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, the U. S. Navy Memorial, Albert Einstein Memorial, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial, the Lyndon B. Johnson Memorial, the Boy Scout Memorial, the African-American Civil War Memorial, the Memorial to the Signers of the Declaration of Independence, and some of the many Civil War Memorials.

DIPLOMATIC WASHINGTON TOURS (4-8 hours) top

Nearly 200 foreign governments are represented in Washington’s diplomatic community. Visit several of Washington’s neighborhoods where the diplomatic community lives and works. By advance appointment, arrangements can be made to see the Diplomatic Reception Rooms at the State Department, Meridian International Center, the Organization of American States, the Mexican Cultural Institute, the Russian Cultural Center, the Japanese Cultural Center, or a possible visit to one or more of the of the Embassy buildings and their special art exhibits.

WASHINGTON, OFF THE BEATEN TRACK TOURS (4-8 hours) top

Frequent visitors to Washington and local Washingtonians who are familiar with the city enjoy this more sophisticated tour. Visit Washington’s charming and unusual sites, and ride through the city to learn the intriguing history behind the creation of the nation’s capital. See some of the city’s curious memorials like the Temperance Memorial, hidden gardens like the Aztec Gardens, odd and unusual outdoor sculpture like “The Awakening,” unique homes like the Old Stone House, little-known museums and quaint galleries, and enjoy the view from the top of a downtown clock tower. Hear stories about famous and infamous residents of Washington, and visit some of the places where they lived and worked.

THE NEIGHBORHOODS OF WASHINGTON TOURS (4-8 hours) top

See where Washingtonians live by visiting historic Georgetown, the old shipping port city on the Potomac River where the Kennedys and Elizabeth Taylor lived. Visit the Capitol Hill neighborhood, with the oldest farmer’s market in the city. Visit Kalorama, the neighborhood of beautiful homes where five presidents chose to live and where the oldest house in the city is located (which wasn’t built there; it was moved there). Visit the Dupont Circle neighborhood where the nouveau riche of the 19th century built their grand mansions. Visit the U Street / Black Broadway neighborhood where Duke Ellington grew up and played jazz in the local clubs. Visit Adams-Morgan, the ethnically diverse neighborhood, known for great restaurants and unusual shops. Visit Southwest/Southeast Washington where the fish market is located, and the Navy Yard. Across the Potomac River, in Virginia, are many noteworthy and remarkable sites worth visiting. Take a walk through Arlington Cemetery to see the Kennedy grave sites, the Custis-Lee house, and the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns. Visit Old Town Alexandria, the finest colonial town in the United States, with quaint little homes, churches, monuments, and delightful shops and restaurants. Enjoy the great view from the top of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Visit several of the historic properties, such as Carlyle house, the Lee-Fendall House, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, Christ Church, the Lyceum, Mt. Vernon, Gunston Hall, Woodlawn Plantation and the Frank Lloyd Wright Pope-Leighey House, Sully Plantation, and Oatland Plantation. A cruise on the Potomac River to Mt. Vernon can be arranged.
